Mascota or AMAXACOTLÁN MAZACOTLA means: place of deer and snakes in Tecos the language of the natives who were the first to settle in this volcanic valley.
Mascota is located in a valley in the Sierra Madre Occidental at an altitude of 1,230 meters above sea level. The climate is warm and cool and very pleasant all year round. The average temperature is 21 degrees Celsius with the rainy season from late June to late October.
Mascota Pueblo Mágico
In 2015, Mascota was incorporated into the program of ‘magical villages’ both for its natural beauty and its traditions and for the kindness and friendliness of its inhabitants. Mascota offers an excellent quality of life where it is good to live while feeling safe. In fact, more and more foreigners are settling or building their houses in our valley because of this feeling of well-being where there is always something interesting to do.
The best way to visit the town of Mascota is on foot or in our open ‘Buggy’, a type of cart as in the photo below, in fact it all depends on your physical condition, what you want to see or the number of people in the group accompanying you. The price per person is 250$ pesos more than the regular price if you want to tour on foot and on our buggy (to see the regular price go at the end of this page)
ON FOOT
This way we can stop more easily to visit any interesting place and thus progress at your own pace. It also allows us to do some exercise and climb, at the end of the route, a small elevation where you can admire the whole valley and its famous volcanoes. This is the perfect place to take pictures.
The 5 attractions we will visit on foot
1. The Mystic Place
Your guide will explain you what happened to this place, one of the most unique and mystical places in Mexico and surely the most photographed place in the municipality.
2. The Historic Center
Your guide will tell you about the fascinating history of this town, its people, its traditions and its famous drink with designation of origin since June 28, 2019, THE RAICILLA
3. Archeology Museum (if open)
We will briefly discover the history of the first inhabitants THE TECOS who left their traces of their life and culture of almost 3000 years ago, archaeological traces that can still be seen and observed today.
4. The Stone House
A unique place in the state of Jalisco for its construction and history.
5. La Subidita (a small hill 100 meters high) From this vantage point you can admire the entire MASCOTA VALLEY and its famous volcanoes and hills.
This mound is approx. 100 meters height, which makes its ascent easy for people of all ages. Since the path is cleared and mostly cemented, the difficulty level of this path is around 4/10. In fact, every day people of different ages and conditions come up there to watch the sunset and exercise.
Circuit statistics
The whole circuit of these 5 places is approx. 4km. According to our experience, one of the best ways to see and know the most important places in Mascota at your own pace in a reasonable time of more or less 2 to 3 hours.
The price per person is 500 pesos. (minimum of 2 people), – 3 people 450 pesos per person, – 4 people or more 400 per person. add an extra 250$ per person if we use our buggy.
TRANSPORT
Round-trip transport from VALLARTA or NUEVO NAYARIT door to door, add $6000 pesos, for a maximum of 6 people. From Guadalajara and surrounding areas, add $9000 pesos. We will pick you up at the place and time that suits you. This way, we can stop along the way to take beautiful photos, stretch our legs, and chat about the activities to do.
Accomodations
We negotiate for you the best prices and the best hotels according to your tastes and your budget (Hotels Class A to C approximately $400-2800 pesos per room ($25-180 USD) per room per day based on double occupancy. WE DO NOT TAKE ANY COMMISSION ON THE HOTEL ROOMS WE BOOK FOR YOU.
